Elizabeth City State University (N.C.) has received a four-year, $875,448 grant from the National Institutes of Health to support student international research internships. The Minority Health Institute Research Training Program will send 10 students each year to the University of Botswana and the University of Zululand in South Africa.
Harvard University (Mass.) has received a $10 million donation from David Rockefeller, a 1936 graduate of the university. The gift increases to $25 million his endowment in support of the university’s Latin American Studies Center, which is named in his honor.
Ohio University has received a grant of $15 million from the Scripps Howard Foundation to support programs at the College of Communication. The grant will help fund scholarships, fellowships and technological improvements.
Rice University’s (Texas) Institute of Biosciences and Bioengineering has received a five-year, $2.1 million grant from the National Institutes of Health to fund interdisciplinary training in biotechnology for 10 graduate students each year. The students, all second- and third-year doctoral students in biotechnology-related fields, will each receive two-year appointments under the new award.
Salisbury University (Md.) has received an $8 million grant from the Arthur W. Perdue Foundation to construct a new facility for the School of Business. The new building will house the school’s academic, public service and research programs.
Southern University (La.) has received a $140,000 grant from the Louisiana Department of Social Services to host an eight-week summer program to encourage teenage abstinence.
The University of Tennessee has received a $10.5 million grant from the Haslam Family Foundation. The grant will help support programs in the School of Music, the College of Business Administration, the Howard H. Baker Jr. Center for Public Policy, the Haslam Endowment and the athletic department.
