Currently, she serves as the provost and vice president for academic affairs at Our Lady of the Lake University. Evans received a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree from the University of Alabama, a master’s degree from the University of Alabama-Birmingham and a Ph.D. from the University of Alabama.

JOYCE P. JACOBSEN

JOYCE P. JACOBSEN has been appointed the 29th president of Hobart and William Smith Colleges. Currently, she serves as provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at Wesleyan University. Jacobsen received a bachelor’s degree in economics from Harvard University, a master’s degree in economics from The London School of Economics and Political Science and a Ph.D. in economics from Stanford University.

MARIA DONOGHUE VELLECA has been appointed the Herbert J. and Ann L. Siegel Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Lehigh University. Prior to her new role, she was senior associate dean for faculty affairs and strategic planning at Georgetown College. Donoghue Velleca earned a bachelor’s degree from Boston College and a Ph.D. in molecular and cellular biology from Washington University in St. Louis.

ABHIJIT BHATTACHARYYA has been named the inaugural dean for the College of Engineering and Computer Science at Arkansas State University. Bhattacharyya earned a bachelor’s degree from the Indian Institute of Technology in Karagpur, India and his master’s degree and Ph.D. from Rutgers University-New Brunswick.

Harvard Faces Lawsuit from Enslaved Man’s Descendant

The great-great-great granddaughter of an enslaved man named Renty has filed a lawsuit against Harvard University, alleging that the institution repeatedly ignored requests to stop licensing pictures of her descendants for the university’s profit, and stop misrepresenting her great-great-great grandfather.

MINOU DJAWDAN SPRADLEY has been appointed vice president for academic affairs at the Southwestern Community College District. Most recently, she served as vice president of instruction at San Diego City College. Prior to her new role, she served as interim provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs at the university. Jackson received a bachelor’s in psychology from Albion College, a master’s degree from Troy State University, a master’s degree from FSU and a Ph.D. from UNC Charlotte.
