TAKITA FELDER SUMTER has been named dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, S.C. She formerly served in the position on an interim basis. She holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and a doctorate in biochemistry from the University of South Carolina.

DANIELLE DENNIS

DANIELLE DENNIS is the new director of the School of Education at the University of Rhode Island. She formerly was an associate professor of literacy studies at the University of South Florida, where she also was program director of the Cambridge (United Kingdom) Schools Experience. She holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Florida Gulf Coast University, a master’s in environmental education from the University of Minnesota-Duluth and a doctorate in language and literacy education from the University of Tennessee.

KANEISHA BAILEY AKINPELUMI has been appointed associate vice president for research and sponsored programs at Xavier University in New Orleans. She formerly served as assistant grants policy officer in the Office of Policy for Extramural Research Administration at the National Institutes of Health. She holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology and social welfare from Dillard University and a master’s in social work from the University of Pennsylvania.

ALI GOETCHEUS has been appointed director of civic engagement and Title IX coordinator at Manchester University in North Manchester, Ind. She previously served as director of the Center for Service Opportunities at Manchester. She holds a bachelor’s degree in social work from St. Joseph’s College.

DAWN ALSTON has been named chief financial officer and vice president for business and financial affairs at Spelman College in Atlanta. She formerly was the college’s director of budgets and contracts. She holds abachelor’s degree in biology from Hampton University, a master’s in environmental toxicology from Clemson University and an MBA from Louisiana State University.

DAVID L. PERRY has been appointed assistant vice chancellor and chief of police at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He previously was chief of police at Florida State University. He holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and a master’s in public administration from Albany State University.

JOHN C. GREGORY has been appointed director of veterans and military student affairs at Kentucky State University. He retired from the U.S. Army as a lieutenant colonel in June. He holds a bachelor’s degree in history from Virginia Military Institute and a master’s degree in criminal justice and doctorate in public policy and administration from Virginia Commonwealth University.
