SUGHRA AHMED has been named associate dean for religious life at Stanford University. She previously held a fellowship at Yale University and was a research associate at Cambridge University and St. Edmund’s College. She also served as president of the Islamic Society of Britain. She earned an undergraduate degree in English language and literature from Birmingham City University and a master’s degree in Islamic studies from Loughborough University.

JOHN HERNANDEZ has been named the fifth president of Santiago Canyon College (SCC). He has been the interim president of SCC since July 2016. Hernandez earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology at California State University, Fullerton; a master’s degree in counseling at California State University, Long Beach; and a doctorate in college student personnel administration from the University of Maryland, College Park.

PEGGY F. BRADFORD has been named president of Shawnee Community College. She was previously provost and vice president of academic affairs at the State University of New York Westchester Community College. Bradford earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, a J.D. from the University of Iowa College of Law and a doctorate in education from Northern Illinois University.

JULIE ZERWIC has been appointed dean of the University of Iowa College of Nursing starting August 14. She was previously the nursing executive associate dean of the College of Nursing at the University of Illinois at Chicago. She earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, a master’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota.

JUSTIN SCHWARTZ has been appointed dean of Harold and Inge Marcus Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering in the College of Engineering at Pennsylvania State University. He received a bachelor’s degree in nuclear engineering from the University of Illinois at UrbanaChampaign and a Ph.D. in nuclear engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
