JOAN R.M. BULLOCK

JOAN R.M. BULLOCK has been appointed dean of the Texas Southern University Thurgood Marshall School of Law. She was previously president and dean of Thomas Jefferson School of Law in San Diego, California. She is the first female dean in the law school’s leadership history. Bullock holds a bachelor’s degree in legal and political theory from Michigan State University, an M.B.A. from the University of Michigan and law degree from the University of Toledo College of Law.

ANDREW COSTON has been named the executive director of the Center for Career Development at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota. Most recently, Coston has been serving as director of career services at Cecil College in North East, Maryland. Coston holds a bachelor’s in psychology from Assumption College and a master’s in school counseling from Loyola College.

YOLANDA COOPER

YOLANDA COOPER has been promoted to dean and university librarian at Emory University. Cooper has served as Emory’s university librarian since 2014. Prior to joining Emory, Cooper served as acting dean and university librarian at the University of Miami Libraries. Cooper holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master of library science degree, both from Indiana University.

PAMELA FRY

PAMELA FRYnamed president of Oklahoma State University-Tulsa. She most recently has served as provost and vice president for academic affairs at the OSU-Tulsa. Fry is the third person and first female to lead OSU-Tulsa since it was founded in 1999. Fry holds a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Oklahoma, a master’s degree from Oklahoma State University in applied behavioral studies and a doctorate from Oklahoma State in curriculum and supervision.

SANDRA MILES has been named vice president of student affairs at Flagler College. She was previously vice provost for student affairs and dean of students at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. She earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and a master’s degree in student personnel administration from the University of Central Florida. She earned a doctoral degree in higher education/higher education administration from Florida State University.

DENISE BOSTON has been appointed vice president of diversity, inclusion and equity at Walden University. She most recently served as the dean of diversity and inclusion at the California Institute of Integral Studies. Boston earned a bachelor’s degree in drama from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, a master’s degree in psychology counseling from Goddard College and a doctorate in counseling psychology from Walden University.

LYNETTE COOK-FRANCIS has been appointed senior vice president for student engagement and enrollment management at Simmons University. Most recently, CookFrancis served as vice president of enrollment management and student affairs at the City University of New York, John Jay College of Criminal Justice. Cook-Francis holds a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Pennsylvania.

JOY WILLIAMSON-LOTT has been appointed dean of the University of Washington’s Graduate School. She previously served as associate dean in UW’s College of Education and will retain a faculty appointment. Williamson-Lott earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology and speech communications, and her master’s degree and doctorate in the history of American education from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Academics Laud Morrison’s Literary Legacy

The grief in Dr. Eddie Glaude’s voice was unmistakable as he spoke of author and educator Toni Morrison, one of America’s towering literary figures whose words leaped from pages into hearts, minds and souls of readers around the world. Morrison, who died Monday evening at the age of 88, now belongs to the ages. Left to mourn her are not just family and friends, but innumerable lovers of literature, scholars and teachers captivated and influenced by her soaring prose, her way with words and her brilliant cultural consciousness.
