Arizona State University’s College of Business will receive a $50 million gift from Wm. Polk Carey, chairman of New York City-based investment firm W.P. Carey & Co. LLC and grandson of John Samuel Armstrong, the legislative founder of Arizona State. The gift will endow the W.P. Carey School of Business at ASU.

Fisk University (Tenn.) received a $100,000 grant from the William Randolph Hearst Foundation to go toward the William Randolph Hearst Endowed Scholarship Fund for academically talented and financially needy students. In addition, the BP Foundation, the charitable arm of BP America Inc., awarded the university an unrestricted donation of $100,000.

The Institute for Recruitment of Teachers (IRT), an educational outreach program of Phillips Academy, has been awarded a $750,000 grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to support the recruitment of outstanding minority college students and to prepare them to enter graduate programs leading to teaching careers.
