Asian American Pacific Islander

College Access Remains Major Hurdle for Hispanics, AAPIs in California

While the number of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders and Hispanics continues to steadily increase throughout California, these groups still do not have equal access to the state’s colleges and universities.

ELREO CAMPBELL has been appointed an associate dean and director of financial aid at Colby College. He was dean of student financial services at Newbury College. Campbell earned an associate from the Community College of Philadelphia, a bachelor’s from Drexel University and an MBA from the University of Phoenix.

EDWARD CHIU has been named senior vice president for advancement at Babson College. He was vice chancellor for university advancement at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. Chiu earned a bachelor’s and a master’s from the University of Connecticut.

LANCASTER, Pa. — A Pennsylvania college has become the latest school to rescind an honorary degree awarded to Bill Cosby.

DANIELLE LARAQUE-ARENA has been named president of SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, effective January 14. She is chair of the department of pediatrics at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York, and a professor of pediatrics at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University. Laraque-Arena holds a bachelor’s and an M.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles.

SONIA NAJJAR

SONIA NAJJAR has been named associate dean for research and innovation in the College of Osteopathic Medicine at Ohio University. She was director of the Center for Diabetes and Endocrine Research and a professor at the University of Toledo. Najjar earned a bachelor’s and a master’s from San Francisco State University, and a doctorate from Stanford University.

TAMARA RODENBERG has been named president of Bethany College in West Virginia, effective January 1. She is vice president for advancement for the Divinity School at Texas Christian University. Rodenberg earned a bachelor’s from Texas Christian University, a master’s from Lexington Theological Seminary and a doctorate from the Graduate Theological Union in California.
