The CITY COLLEGE OF NEW YORK has received a $10 MILLION gift from writer Michael “Mickey” Ross to establish a Jewish studies center at the college.

KALAMAZOO VALLEY COMMUNITY COLLEGE has received a $331,692 grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for its life-science center.

A LOUISIANA STATE UNIVERSITY chemist, Barry Dellinger, has been awarded a $30,000 grant by the American Chemical Society for his work, which includes research in the formation of toxic combustion by-products, incineration of hazardous materials, combustion- generated nanoparticles and environmentally persistent free radicals.

The MID-AMERICA ASSOCIATION OF EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITY PROGRAM has received a $100,000 grant from the Grand Victoria Foundation to provide scholarships, fellowships and graduate assistance, career and leadership development and capacity building assistance.

SPELMAN COLLEGE (Ga.) has received a $1.4 MILLION grant from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute to mentor and develop female scientists.

ST. GREGORY’S UNIVERSITY (Okla.) has received a $1.5 MILLION challenge grant from the J.E. and L.E. Mabee Foundation Inc. The grant has been provided conditionally and charges university officials to raise more funds to build new student resident halls for SGU.

The STEVENS INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY (N.J.) has been awarded a $3 MILLION grant from the National Science Foundation to provide fellowships to 10 doctoral students per year.
