Bredesen names 4 new trustees to University of Tennessee board

NASHVILLE Tenn.

Gov. Phil Bredesen has named four businessmen, including a former state Democratic Party chairman, to fill vacancies on the University of Tennessee board of trustees, Bredesen’s office announced Monday.

The four new trustees are Charles Anderson Jr., Douglas Horne, George Cates and Robert Talbott.

Horne, who served as state Democratic chairman from 1999 to 2000, is the president and CEO of Horne Properties, a real estate development and management company in Knoxville. He earned a degree in industrial management from UT.

He is replacing William B. Stokely, who was appointed in 2001.

Anderson is the president and CEO of Knoxville-based Anderson Media, a distributor of magazines and books. He earned a business administration degree from UT and serves on the Country Music Association’s board of directors.

Anderson is replacing Jim Haslam, a trustee since 1980 who has served as chairman.
