Professional Appointments

Dr. M. Christopher Brown II has been named executive director and chief research scientist of the Frederick D. Patterson Research Institute of the United Negro College Fund. Brown earned a bachelor’s from South Carolina State University, a master’s from the University of Kentucky and a doctorate in higher education from Penn State University.

Vielka V. Holness is the new associate director and director for training for the Office of Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action at Columbia University. Previously, she was director of the Center for Career Development at Pace University School of Law. Holness earned a bachelor’s from New York University and a juris doctorate from the University of Michigan School of Law.

Dr. Andrew Hugine Jr. has been named the ninth president of South Carolina State University. Hugine served as the interim executive vice president. He also served as professor of mathematics and in several other administrative positions. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from South Carolina State, and a doctorate in higher education from Michigan State University.
