Higher Education Programs to Survive With Short-Term Funds
By Charles Dervarics
Federal higher education programs will continue to operate with only temporary funds through January as a result of recent congressional action.
Congress has funded federal education programs through short-term spending bills, or “continuing resolutions” since the Oct. 1 start of the new fiscal year. Lawmakers were at odds over spending priorities before the mid-term elections, and legislatures now have decided to wait until the new year to settle the disputes. Republicans will claim control of both the House and the Senate in January.
