VALERIE SMITH
VALERIE SMITH has been appointed president of Swarthmore College, effective July 1. She is currently dean of the college and a professor of literature and African-American studies at Princeton University. Smith earned a bachelor’s from Bates College, and a master’s and a doctorate from the University of Virginia.

RANGITA DE SILVA DE ALWIS
RANGITA DE SILVA DE ALWIS has been appointed associate dean of international affairs for the School of Law at the University of Pennsylvania. She was director of the Women in Public Service Project and the Global Women’s Leadership Initiative at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars. De Silva de Alwis earned a bachelor’s from the University of Colombo in Sri Lanka, and a master’s and a doctorate from Harvard Law School.

RHONDA TRACY has been named chancellor of the Kentucky Community and Technical College System, effective April 16. She is currently the senior vice president for academic affairs at West Virginia University at Parkersburg. She earned a bachelor’s from the University of South Carolina, a master’s from West Virginia University and a doctorate from Ohio University.
