National Black MBAs to Award Students $300K in Scholarships

CHICAGO

High school and college students eager to jumpstart their educational and career goals will have plenty of opportunities during this year’s National Black MBA Association (NBMBAA) annual conference and career expo to be held October 11-16 at the San Diego Convention Center.

The 27th annual event, “Leading with Passion, Purpose and Power” is billed as the largest gathering of minority professionals in the country, with more than 11,000 people expected to attend.

A highlight of the weeklong business conference will be the awarding of more than $300,000 in scholarships and gifts to Ph.D., MBA, undergraduate and high school students who participate in the association’s fellowship, scholarship and Leaders of Tomorrow programs which, through the NBMBAA’s 39 local chapters, offer resources, mentoring and tutoring.

“This year’s conference will offer our members and our young people a unique opportunity to network with leaders of business and commerce from around the country so they might gain valuable insights toward achieving success,” said NBMBAA president and CEO Barbara Thomas.

Scholarship money as well as employment opportunities will be on the line for teams of MBA students who will participate in this year’s Case Competition. Students from more than 35 universities across the country will showcase their analytical, problem solving and demonstration skills as they present a case analysis to a panel of corporate judges who are able to observe first-hand a potential employee’s ability to solve business problems, thereby improving employment opportunities.

Another key conference attraction for many will be the annual Career Fair and Expo which attracts representatives from more than 350 corporations and top business schools.
