Minority Coach Watch: Black Coaches Lead Two Teams in Top 25 Games in Week Five

The University of Miami’s Randy Shannon remains the only minority head Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) coach whose team is ranked in the Associated Press’ Top 25. This weekend, Shannon will take his No. 16 Miami Hurricanes team to Clemson University, on Saturday, in what will be the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) opener for both teams. The Hurricanes (2-1) are the highest-ranked ACC team and will likely need a win Saturday to remain in the Top 25.

DeWayne Walker will lead New Mexico State University (0-3) against No. 3 ranked Boise State University. Boise State is the highest-ranked program to ever play against New Mexico State in Las Cruces, N.M.

The complete FBS minority head coaches schedule for Saturday, October 2:

No. 16 Miami (Randy Shannon) at Clemson

No. 3 Boise State at New Mexico State (DeWayne Walker)

Kentucky (Joker Phillips) at Mississippi

Kansas (Turner Gill) at Baylor
