BRYAN SAMUEL
BRYAN SAMUEL has been appointed vice president for diversity, equity, and inclusion at the University of Texas at Arlington. Chief diversity and inclusion officer at Kansas State University since 2018, Samuel holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and a master’s degree in community counseling from the University of Tennessee, Chattanooga. He holds a doctorate in higher education administration from the University of Nebraska.

FITZROY B. BECKFORD
FITZROY B. BECKFORD has been named associate dean and director of extension in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at the University of Vermont. Beckford spent over a decade with the University of Florida as a county extension director managing work in areas such as agriculture, natural resources, youth development, food systems, small farms initiatives and environmental sustainability. He holds a Ph.D. in sustainability education.

ANA RAMOS-ZAYAS
ANA RAMOS-ZAYAS has been named the Frederick Clifford Ford Professor of Ethnicity, Race, and Migration at Yale University. A professor of American studies and anthropology at Yale, Ramos-Zayas holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and Latin American studies from Yale University. She also holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in anthropology from Columbia University.

VICTORIA O’KEEFE
VICTORIA O’KEEFE has been named the inaugural Santosham Chair in Native American Health at Johns Hopkins University. O’Keefe became the school’s first tenure track faculty member of Native American heritage when appointed assistant professor in the department of international health at JHU’s Bloomberg School of Public Health in 2016. A member of the Cherokee and Seminole Nations of Oklahoma, she holds a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Oklahoma State University.

March Madness Thrives Amid Scrutiny, COVID-19 Concerns
March Madness returned in 2021, after being shut down by COVID-19 in 2020. As conferences and the NCAA sought to recover some of the losses associated with last year’s canceled men’s basketball tournament, teams and a very limited number of fans returned to coliseums this spring with restrictions in place, but with cautious optimism and excitement over the perennial spring tournaments.
