SHEILAH M. PAUL has been named founding dean of the School of Education at Medgar Evers College (MEC). She was previously acting dean of the School of Liberal Arts and Education and former chair of the department of education at MEC. Paul earned a bachelor’s degree from Brooklyn College of the City University of New York and three master’s degrees and a Ph.D. from Columbia University.

JIM HEATH has been named director of sports information at Hampton University. He was previously the assistant sports information director since August 2016. Heath earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Christopher Newport University.

FALLOU NGOM

FALLOU NGOM has been appointed director of the African Studies Center at Boston University (BU). He is also an associate professor in the department of Anthropology at BU. Ngom earned a Maîtrise d’anglais from the Université Gaston Berger de Saint-Louis in Senegal, a master’s degree from the University of Montana and a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

KALANI CRAIG

KALANI CRAIG has been appointed codirector of the Institute for Digital Arts and Humanities at Indiana University in Bloomington. She is also an assistant professor in the department of history. Craig earned a bachelor’s degree from Scripps College, a master’s degree from Portland State University and a Ph.D. from Indiana University.

JAMES B. HUGHES JR.

JAMES B. HUGHES JR. has been named interim dean of the Emory University School of Law. Hughes is also associate dean for academic affairs and has been a faculty member in the law school since 1992. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Connecticut and a J.D. from Yale Law School.

ISIAH BROWN has been named inaugural Diversity and Inclusion Fellow at SUNY Oswego. He is currently a visiting assistant professor of management in the School of Business. Brown earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Savannah State University and a Ph.D. from Florida A&M University.

TAMI B. SIMMONS has been named vice president of Institutional Advancement at Johnson C. Smith University. Simmons is executive director of Susan G. Komen Charlotte and previously served as a member of JCSU’s board of trustees. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Hampton University and a master’s degree from North Carolina Central University.

JOHNNETTA B. COLE has been named senior consulting fellow at the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. She is president emerita of Spelman College and Bennett College and former director of the Smithsonian National Museum of African Art. Cole earned a bachelor’s degree from Oberlin College and a master’s degree and Ph.D. from Northwestern University.

JOHN B. KING JR. has been appointed visiting professor at the University of Maryland College of Education. He is president and CEO of The Education Trust and previously served as the 10th U.S. Secretary of Education. King earned a bachelor’s degree from Harvard University, a J.D. from Yale Law School and a master’s degree and Ed.D. from Teachers College at Columbia University.
