CLEO D. RUCKER has been appointed chief human resources officer at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. Rucker has served as senior director of human resources consulting, employee, and labor relations for the past three years and has been on the staff at the university since 2011. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, a master’s degree in religion from Trevecca Nazarene University and a juris doctorate from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Founding director of Cal Tech’s Center for Teaching, Learning, and Outreach, Horii was previously dean of the faculty at Curry College in Milton, Massachusetts. She holds a bachelor’s degree in physics from the University of Colorado Boulder and a Ph.D. in atmospheric chemistry from Harvard University.

VANESSA BLAIR-LEWIS
VANESSA BLAIR-LEWIS has been appointed head coach of women’s basketball at George Mason University. Head women’s basketball coach at Bethune-Cookman University for 13 seasons, Blair-Lewis helped the Wildcats to their first NCAA Tournament appearance. Blair-Lewis was previously a college athlete and coach at Mount St. Mary’s. She was a two-time NEC Player of the Year for Mount St. Mary’s, and is a part of the Mount St. Mary’s Hall of Fame, as well as the NEC Hall of Fame.

Philadelphia Fed’s Webinar Focuses on Financial Impact and Challenges of COVID-19 on Higher Ed Institutions
Last year, campus-wide shutdowns resulted in financial reimbursement for students and employee furloughs at higher education institutions across the country. To provide support, the federal government passed several relief packages including the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act and American Rescue Plan Act. However, even as colleges and universities plan to reopen their campuses for in-person learning, the economic effects of COVID-19 will continue to linger.
