JOSÉ LUIS ALVARADO has been named dean of Fordham University’s Graduate School of Education. Alvarado has served as provost and vice president for academic affairs at Cal State Los Angeles, the founding dean of the College of Education at California State University Monterey Bay and associate dean of the College of Education at San Diego State University. He holds a Ph.D. in special education from the University of Virginia.

HARI M. OSOFSKY has been named Myra and James Bradwell Professor and dean of the Northwestern Pritzker School of Law. Osofsky is currently the dean of Penn State Law and the Penn State School of International Affairs, Osofsky is also Distinguished Professor of Law, professor of international affairs and professor of geography at Penn State. She holds a law degree from Yale Law School and a Ph.D. in geography from the University of Oregon.

NADIA BROWN has been appointed director of the Women’s and Gender Studies Program at Georgetown University, where Brown will also be a professor in the Department of Government with an affiliate appointment in the Department of African American Studies. Roueche Center Forum: Culturally Responsive Teaching in the Community College
While education is the great equalizer, enrollment and attainment gaps linked to race and ethnicity have long plagued the nation’s educational system, particularly among African American, Hispanic and Native American students. Researchers and practitioners emphasize the need for culturally relevant supports and interventions to address issues of equitable enrollment, retention and completion practices on college campuses. One such intervention, Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT), has proven to be a powerful strategy to improve student success and completion.
