Long Beach, Calif. When Harry Pachón’s brother asked him which college he would attend after high school, Pachón said he thought colleges would get in touch with him. Dr. Pachón, now president of the Tomás Rivera Policy Institute, said his anecdote illustrated that lack of information should not be confused with lack of ability.

Alabama Desegregation Case Coming to a Close
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. A 25-year-old desegregation case involving Alabama’s colleges and universities is coming to a close, as U.S. District Judge Harold Murphy has ordered the state to set aside $46 million in surplus education funds. Part of the sum is to be used for a need-based scholarship program and a construction program at two historically Black state institutions.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The first minority president of Broward Community College abruptly resigned this week after less than three years on the job. Larry Calderón announced a day later that he will join Nova Southeastern University as vice president of community and governmental affairs.

The recent drop in enrollment fees at California’s community colleges is being praised by educators throughout the state.
