Civil Rights Commission Probes Possible Gender Bias at Colleges

A federal civil rights agency investigating possible gender discrimination in college admissions will subpoena data from more than a dozen mid-Atlantic universities, officials said Thursday.

NCAA Women of Color Symposium Launches Recruitment and Retention Strategy Campaign

A recent NCAA report showed that ethnic minority women make up only 1.6 percent of athletic directors at institutions involved in intercollegiate athletics at the Division I, II and III levels – including Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Slow motion penalty – lawsuit by National Women’s Law Center – related article on Title IX law – Despite Sluggish Progress, Four HBCUs Cited in Title IX Complaint

It is ironic that four historically Black colleges and universities are among the twenty-five institutions named in a Title IX complaint filed by the National Women’s Law Center. Ironic, because the prime mission of HBCUs is to provide educational opportunities to those who may not otherwise get the chance to attend college. The complaint was filed in June just weeks before the celebration of Title IX’s twenty-fifth anniversary.
