Study Finds Minorities More Likely to be Paddled in School
Paddlings, swats, licks. A quarter of a million U.S. schoolchildren got them last year and blacks, American Indians and kids with disabilities got a disproportionate share of the punishment, according to a study by a human rights group.

The story, “Journalism Educators Association Aims to Step Up Diversity Efforts,” published online Aug. 11, 2008 contained factual errors that have since been corrected. The story should have said that Tony Atwater was the first African-American to lead AEJMC from 1992 to 1993. The Commission on the Status of Women, the Commission on the Status of Minorities and the Gay Lesbian Bisexual Transgender Interest Group were established several years earlier than reported.

United Tribes Adds Law-Enforcement Classes
The United Tribes Technical College will be adding classes in criminal justice and law enforcement and will have a Bureau of Indian Affairs officer stationed on campus by the end of August to teach and work with tribal communities in the region.
