He was vice president of academic affairs and chief academic officer at Laramie County Community College in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Fierro earned a DVM from the University of Applied Sciences in Bogotá, Colombia, a master’s from Nova Southeastern University in Florida and a doctorate from Northcentral University in Arizona.

He was a professor and senior associate dean of academic affairs for the School of Law at the University of California, Davis.
