Hara D. Charlier, Ph.D.

CharlierHara D. Charlier, Ph.D., is the new president of Berkshire Community College in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. The college enrolls nearly 1,700 students, according to the U.S. Department of Education. Women represent more than two-thirds of the student body.

Dr. Charlier has served as president of Central Lakes College in Brainerd, Minnesota, for the past 10 years. Throughout her presidency, the college experienced significant growth in enrollment, modernized its facilities, and launched more than 20 new academic programs. As a former faculty member, Dr. Charlier taught courses in anatomy, microbiology, and biology.

“As I make the transition from rural Minnesota to BCC and the amazing Berkshires community, I could not be more excited to begin this next chapter,” said Dr. Charlier. “As soon as I learned about the mission of BCC, which focuses on access for all, I knew this was the place for me. I look forward to getting to know the faculty, the staff, and most importantly, the students who make BCC the special place it is.”

Dr. Charlier received her bachelor’s degree in animal science from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. She holds a master’s degree in microbiology from Miami University in Ohio and a Ph.D. in community college leadership from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia.
