Marika Peterson

Marika Peterson holds a B.A. in history from Mount Mary University, an M.A. in American history from Marquette University, and a Ph.D. in American history from Marquette University.

Marika Peterson has been named dean of libraries and university librarian at Virginia State University (VSU). Peterson most recently served as college-wide librarian at Southside Virginia Community College.

“Marika Peterson’s extensive experience, strategic vision, and deep connection to Virginia State University make her an outstanding choice to lead our University Libraries,” said Dr. Tia A. Minnis, VSU’s provost and vice president for academic affairs. “Her leadership will play a critical role in advancing student success, strengthening faculty research, and expanding access to innovative library resources.”

Peterson holds a master of library science degree from North Carolina Central University, a master of education degree in educational technology from Virginia State University, and a bachelor of arts degree in English/mass communications from Virginia State University.
