Memorial Stadium Continues Legacy of Honoring Military Veterans

Even though Memorial Stadium transforms into Nebraska’s third-biggest city with 90,000 fans flocking to the Husker football shrine for games on fall Saturdays, there’s more to its story than football, Blackshirts and tailgates.

According to History Nebraska, the stadium opened for its first game October 13, 1923, to commemorate the service men and women from World War I.
