Smartphone App Could Help Sailors, Families Easily Access Records

A new app is going to make it easier for sailors to view portions of their training records without having to use government computers.

The beta version of the MyRecord Mobile app that was release last week, gives sailors read-only access to their Electronic Training Jackets through the MyNavy Portal, the Navy’s online, self-service career management website, according to Government Technology.

The Electronic Training Jackets contain important information such as military training records the sailor has completed in addition to college courses and language skills.

According to a recent statement from Vice Adm. Robert Burke, chief of naval personnel, MyRecord is the Navy’s stepping stone toward giving sailors and their families more access to records and services without using their Common Access Cards (CAC) as a security measure.

The CAC is the standard Department of Defense ID card and is also used to access military computer networks.

In the future, the Navy hopes to allow sailors and their families have equivalent secure digital access that they would expect from their banks, Burke said.

“In time, sailors will be able to conduct all personnel transactions using their mobile device,” Burke added.
