After graduating from the U.S. Air Force Academy and receiving her master’s in theology from Liberty University, Capt. Christy Wise was sent to Afghanistan, where, as a pilot, she flew six rescue missions in 2012.
In December 2015, she was scheduled to deploy again, but in April, her life changed forever. According to The Washington Post, Wise was paddle boarding with her boyfriend in Florida when she saw a boat speeding toward her.
