Wounded Warrior Is Pillar of Strength

Brendan Ferreira was lying on a mat at the Somerset gym he owns, a small foam roller under his side, rocking back and forth on it. I noticed his left arm ended just past the elbow.

“When you get blown up,” he said, “you have a lot of deep scar tissue.” If you don’t work it, he explained, the muscles bind up.

Ferreira is 30, a retired Army staff sergeant. Seven years ago, he was the target of a suicide bomber in Afghanistan. He opened his gym, Strategic Strength and Conditioning, as part of his journey back.
