VA Scholarship Cost Could Affect Other Funding

MONTGOMERY – The Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs needs an increase of about $33 million next year for its college scholarship program for disabled veterans’ dependents.

Because there will be limited additional money in the 2018 education budget, a significant increase in funding for Veterans Affairs means less new money for other higher education expenses.

“In 2018, we are requesting $98 million,” said Belinda Bazinet, a spokeswoman for the department.
