University of Nevada, Las Vegas Chancellor Demoted to Faculty

LAS VEGAS

The Nevada Board of Regents has unanimously voted to demote University of Nevada, Las Vegas President David Ashley to the faculty after critics called him ineffective and disengaged.

The action was taken Friday after Jim Rogers, who retired as chancellor June 30, urged regents to dismiss Ashley.

Rogers says he had received complaints that Ashley’s wife had mistreated university employees and that Ashley had failed to relate to regents, campus members and the Las Vegas community.

The 58-year-old Ashley said his wife’s alleged behavior should have nothing to do with his job performance.

Ashley will become a member of UNLV’s College of Engineering faculty. He’ll earn his pro-rated annual base salary as president, which is about $242,424, until his current contract ends.
