Eastern Washington University Board Picks First Latino President 

CHENEY, Wash.

      Rodolfo Arevalo, provost at the University of Texas-Pan American, was named the 25th president of Eastern Washington University, becoming the school’s first Latino president, EWU’s board of trustees announced earlier this week.

      His appointment takes effect April 1.

      Arevalo succeeds Stephen M. Jordan, who left in June to accept the presidency of Metropolitan State College in Denver.

Arevalo has served as provost at Texas-Pan American since 1998.

      The former chairman of the Department of Social Work at California State University, Los Angeles, Arevalo has extensive experience in the field of social work and has numerous published academic works.
