WICHITA, Kan.
Citing a wish to pursue other opportunities, Dr. Aidan O. Dunleavy has resigned his post as Newman University president.
The resignation, effective at the end of the school year, comes as
Dunleavy completes his five-year commitment to the private Roman
Catholic school he has led since becoming its 10th president in 2000.
Dunleavy said in a written statement that in his last months at the
university he will focus on its library and on the development of its
advancement programs.
“At this juncture, and with our children now graduated from college,
my wife and I are anxious to consider other opportunities,” Dunleavy
said in a statement.
Daily operations of the school will be the responsibility of the university’s provost, Dr. B. Lee Cooper, the university said.
Dunleavy is credited with improving the university’s finances, which
showed three back-to-back years of surpluses, said John Marstall,
president of the university’s board of trustees.
