Dickinson State has boosted its international enrollment from 20 students in 2000 to 396 students last fall. Some Dickinson State students say the record hasn’t come easy, and complain about diversity overload. Though none of the international students have reported violence, some say they have experienced insensitivity.

The snack bar at Dickinson State University, in one of the least diverse states in the country, is a melting pot. International students from Armenia to Zimbabwe speak their native languages as they contemplate such American fare as fried chicken warmed under a heat lamp.
