NEWTONA “TINA” JOHNSON
NEWTONA “TINA” JOHNSON has been appointed interim vice provost for academic affairs at Middle Tennessee State University. She was a professor of English and director of the university’s women’s and gender studies program. She earned a bachelor’s from the University of Sierra Leone, a master’s from Dalhousie University in Canada, a master’s from Concordia University in Canada and a doctorate from Emory University.

JAMEL SANTA CRUZE BELL has been named interim president of Eureka College in Illinois, effective in July 2016. She is vice president for strategic and diversity initiatives at Eureka. Bell earned a bachelor’s from Missouri Western State University, and a master’s and a doctorate from the University of Kansas.

MIKE GARRETT has been named executive director for athletics at California State University, Los Angeles. Most recently, he served as athletic director at Langston University in Oklahoma. He earned a bachelor’s from the University of Southern California and a juris doctor from the Western State College of Law at Argosy University.
