COLETTE PIERCE BURNETTE has been named president and CEO of Huston-Tillotson University, effective July 1. She last served as interim president at Pierce College in Puyallup, Washington. Pierce Burnett earned a bachelor’s from The Ohio State University and a master’s from Georgia College in Milledgeville.

MAHESH DAAS has been named dean of the School of Architecture, Design, and Planning at the University of Kansas. He was a professor and chair of the architecture department at Ball State University. Daas earned a bachelor’s from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University in India, a master’s from Kansas State University and a doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania.

Commemorations of various key moments in the U.S. Civil War, which ended 150 years ago, have come and gone, but this month will present occasions for several more. Although Robert E. Lee surrendered to U.S. Lieutenant General Ulysses S. Grant on April 9, 1865, at Appomattox Court House in Virginia, various battles, skirmishes and subsequent surrenders continued through May of that year and beyond.
