White House, U.S. Department of Education Officials to Address Historically Black Colleges and Universities National Conference
White House Domestic Policy Advisor Melody Barnes will address attendees at the 2010 National Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Week Conference Monday morning, Sept. 13 at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City in Arlington, Va. The annual HBCU conference takes place Sept. 12-14 during National HBCU Week, which is Sept. 12 -18.
In addition, the U.S. Department of Education’s Deputy Secretary Tony Miller and Under Secretary Martha Kanter will deliver remarks during the HBCU Week conference. House Majority Whip U.S. Rep. James E. Clyburn will also speak, as well as other U.S Department of Education and HBCU officials.
The conference is an important forum for the Administration to discuss key issues confronting HBCUs and to assist them in continuing to provide an academically enriched and supportive environment for students. On Feb. 26, President Obama signed an executive order renewing the White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
