The AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF COMMUNITY COLLEGES has received $2.5 MILLION from the Wal-Mart Foundation for AACC’s Building Better Communities through Regional Economic Development Partnerships initiative. Specifically, the funds will go toward AACC’s Center for Workforce Development.

BRYN MAWR (PA.) and SPELMAN COLLEGES (GA.) have received a four-year, $1.1 MILLION grant from the National Science Foundation to support the Enhancing Diversity in Graduate Education program, a joint venture in the mathematics departments at both schools.

The Tom Joyner Foundation has awarded a group of select historically Black colleges and universities a $1.1 MILLION grant to increase the number of fully certified teachers in minority and hard-to-staff schools across the country. Alabama A&M University; Howard University (D.C.); LeMoyne- Owen College (Tenn.); Mississippi Valley State University; Norfolk State University (Va.); and Prairie View A&M University (Texas) will join the four institutions already participating in the teacher development program, Cheyney University of Pennsylvania; Clark Atlanta University (Ga.); Harris-Stowe State University (Mo.); and Johnson C. Smith University (N.C.).

NORTH CAROLINA A&T STATE UNIVERSITY has received $60,000 from the Merck/AAAS Undergraduate Science Research Program to establish an interdepartmental summer research program with the biology and chemistry departments for undergraduate biology and chemistry majors.

The PAN AMERICAN HEALTH ORGANIZATION’S NATIONAL LIBRARY OF MEDICINE has received $40,000 from the Elsevier Foundation for the creation of a Latin America Virtual Library on Health and Disasters.

The SOUTHERN REGIONAL EDUCATION BOARD has received a $320,000 grant from the AT&T Foundation to help schools in member states bolster the supply of highquality online teachers in K-12 schools.

The UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA LIBRARIES has received $40,000 from the Elsevier Foundation for the information/library needs assessment for medical research and health care delivery initiatives in Botswana.
