ALVIN ALVAREZ
ALVIN ALVAREZ has been appointed dean of the College of Health and Social Sciences at San Francisco State University. He is interim dean of the College of Health and Social Sciences and a professor at San Francisco State. Alvarez earned bachelor’s degrees from the University of California, Irvine and a master’s and a doctorate from the University of Maryland, College Park.

CARLA JACKSON BELL
CARLA JACKSON BELL has been selected as dean of the Robert R. Taylor School of Architecture and Construction Science in the New Millennium at Tuskegee University. She served on the faculty and was director of multicultural affairs in the College of Architecture, Design and Construction at Auburn University. She earned a bachelor’s from Tuskegee University, a master’s from the Savannah College of Art & Design and a doctorate from the Union Institute & University.

AUDREY BILGER has been appointed vice president for academic affairs and dean of the college at Pomona College, effective July 1. She is a professor of literature and founding faculty director of the Center for Writing & Public Discourse at Claremont McKenna College. Bilge earned a bachelor’s from Oklahoma State University, and a master’s and a doctorate from the University of Virginia.

JANE WONG has been named dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at The College of New Jersey. She is interim dean of the College of Science and Technology and head of the psychology department at Armstrong State University in Georgia. She earned a bachelor’s from Loyola University, and a master’s and a doctorate from Northern Illinois University.

Expert: ‘Momentum Matters’ for Community College Students Who Transfer to 4-Year Schools
Only 14 percent of students who transfer from community college to a four-year school graduate with a bachelor’s degree within six years, according to a joint study.
