LAS VEGAS
The Community College of Southern Nevada has a shortened name, and several administrators are being promoted as the campus prepares for the departure of its president, Richard Carpenter.
Michael Richards, vice president of academic services, has been named interim president to replace Carpenter when he departs Aug. 1 to head the North Harris Montgomery Community College District in Houston.
The school in Las Vegas has dropped “community” from its name, to become the College of Southern Nevada and appeal more to students and donors, officials said.
Carlos Campo, dean of Liberal Arts, was named to take over for Richards as interim vice president, and Rose Hawkins, English Department chairwoman, was appointed to Campo’s spot as dean.
Richards told faculty and staff in a letter that the personnel changes should ensure stability for students while regents seek a permanent president.
Hawkins’ assistant chairman, John Zeibel, will serve as interim chairman of the English Department until faculty elect a permanent leader.
