Vanderbilt UniversityVanderbilt UniversityVanderbilt University has received final regulatory approval to establish its first satellite campus in New York City, marking a significant expansion for the 150-year-old institution as it seeks to provide students with immersive learning opportunities in one of the nation's major metropolitan centers.

The New York Board of Regents unanimously approved Vanderbilt's application for academic programming Tuesday, clearing the final regulatory hurdle for the Nashville university to begin operations at Vanderbilt University–New York City in fall 2026. Located in Manhattan's Chelsea neighborhood, the campus spans nearly a full city block with 13 buildings on 2.7 acres.

"Vanderbilt is committed to providing the best opportunities for our students and faculty and to having the greatest possible impact in the world," said Chancellor Daniel Diermeier.. "Few cities offer the opportunities for learning and discovery available in New York."

The campus will initially offer two academic programs: an Undergraduate Semester Program and a Master of Science in Business and Technology. The undergraduate program will accommodate approximately 100 students each semester, primarily juniors and seniors, who will participate in coursework, internships, research positions and project-based learning while living in campus residence halls.

The graduate program will combine curriculum from the Owen Graduate School of Management and Vanderbilt's School of Engineering, designed to equip students with technical expertise and business acumen to advance New York's technology sector and innovation ecosystem.

Dr. C. Cybele Raver, Vanderbilt's Provost, said the expansion reflects the university's commitment to place-based learning that connects academic study with professional experience across sectors including finance, technology, media and the arts.

The New York region represents Vanderbilt's largest alumni community outside Tennessee, with more than 7,800 alumni and 740 currently enrolled students. The campus will also serve as a hub for alumni engagement and lifelong learning opportunities.
