Bronx Community College’s (N.Y.) National Center for Educational Alliances has been awarded a $350,000 grant from the Ford Foundation to expand upon its educational initiative in South Africa, which was begun under a previous Ford Foundation grant. New Linkages: Phase II will expand the projects’ scope from KwaZulu-Natal Province into the neighboring Eastern Cape Province.

The City College of New York has received a $7 million contribution from alums Larry and Yvette Gralla to expand a scholarship program for graduates of top New York City public high schools. Larry Gralla, the co-owner of Gralla Publications, is a 1951 graduate of CCNY. Yvette Gralla graduated from the college in 1952.

Claflin University (S.C.) has received a three-year $399,971 Curriculum Improvement Partnership Award II (CIPA-II), which is administered by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and the United Negro College Fund Special Programs Corporation. CIPA provides funds to help minority colleges and universities create programs in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Florida Atlantic University has received a $2 million grant from Office Depot to support the construction of the Center for Executive Education in the College of Business. The grant is administered through the Education and Diversity Partnership Program.

Kennesaw State University (Ga.) has received a $30,000 grant from the University System of Georgia to help boost the number and success rate of Black men entering college. The university will coordinate with two local high schools and two civic organizations to provide mentoring for Black men from high school through college.

Prince George’s Community College (Md.) has received a three-year, $1 million grant from Gaylord Entertainment to cover start-up costs for the college’s hospitality program. The grant will help offset costs for faculty, materials, equipment and curriculum for the program. The grant is part of a program to develop Prince George’s County’s work force in preparation for the opening of the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center, scheduled to open in Spring 2008.

Simmons College (Mass.) has received a $1.8 million grant from Atlantic Philanthropies to enable 25 Vietnamese librarians to study at the college’s Graduate School of Library and Information Science. The librarians will then return to Vietnam, where they will continue to be taught by Simmons faculty.
