Dr. Julie Chen became chancellor of University of Massachusetts Lowell on July 1, 2022, tasked with overseeing its approximately 18,000 students. Since then, UMass Lowell has seen increases in enrollment, retention, six-year graduation rates and philanthropy. The UMass System’s first LGBTQ-identifying chancellor, Chen has elevated UMass Lowell in research and sustainability while increasing efforts to build partnerships with government and industry. This includes the Lowell Innovation Network Corridor, a mixed-use development fostering an innovation ecosystem designed to impact the city of Lowell’s future.
