On June 1, 2024, Dr. Julie V. Philley became the first female president of the University of Texas at Tyler. Philley is a medical doctor and professor of medicine who is board certified in internal, pulmonary and critical care medicine. After the merger of UT Tyler and the UT Health Science Center at Tyler in 2021, she served as executive vice president for health affairs. From 2022 until she assumed the presidency, Philley was vice provost. She was instrumental in launching the UT Tyler School of Medicine, which had its first cohort in 2023.
